While installing any thing new on an Ubuntu server, the best practice is  to update all the available packages to latest versions. <\/p>\n

The below “apt-get \u200bupdate” command updates all available packages on the server.<\/p>\n

#sudo apt-get update<\/p>\n

Let’s start installing “vsftpd” which is the main motive of this article.<\/p>\n

Step<\/span>1 – Installing  VSFTPD FTP Server <\/h6>\n

The below command will install VSFTPD FTP server on Ubuntu<\/p>\n

#sudo apt-get -y install vsftpd<\/p>\n

Disallow anonymous, unidentified users to access files via FTP change the anonymous_enable setting to NO<\/p>\n

Allow local users to login by changing the local_enable setting to YES<\/p>\n

local_enable=YES <\/p>\n

If you want local user to be able to write to a directory, then change the write_enable setting to YES<\/p>\n

write_enable=YES <\/p>\n

Local users will be \u2018chroot jailed\u2019 and they will be denied access to any other part of the server. Change the chroot_local_user setting to YES<\/p>\n

chroot_local_user=YES <\/p>\n

Ctrl + X helps you exit from the editor and it requests you to save the file before it exits. Just type “Y” and it will save and exit.<\/p>\n

Step 3 – Restart <\/span>vsftpd service<\/h6>\n

#service vsftpd restart<\/p>\n

Step 4 – How to stop <\/span>vsftpd service<\/h6>\n

#service vsftpd stop<\/p>\n

Step 5 – How to set vsftpd service to start at boot<\/h6>\n

#service enable vsftpd<\/p>\n

Step 6 – How to configure Users home directory<\/h6>\n

\u200bOnce you complete installing VSFTPD on your server, you should create the path where to upload your files in your home directory.<\/p>\n

Create \u200ba new directory to upload files<\/p>\n

mkdir \/home\/fwhuser\/upload\/chown fwhuser:fwhuser \/home\/fwhuser\/upload\/<\/p>\n
